How can growth mindset help your small business?

There are two types of business owners. One who wants to work for themselves, have a comfortable life without too much hustle, and one who aspires to "take over the world."

The first is creating a job for themselves, which works for many people very well. The second believes that failure is just a stepping stone to success.

What is a growth mindset?

A growth mindset is a belief that you can achieve anything you want. It's an understanding that your abilities can develop, and making mistakes is a part of the learning process.

A growth mindset is vital for business owners because sometimes, things go wrong, and mistakes happen. Seeing those as challenges and opportunities for improvement is essential. In business, there are perfect days when things go well and happen without much effort and others when seemingly nothing goes your way. It would be best if you saw these as opportunities for reflection.

How can you develop a growth mindset?
It's not always easy to feel this way when you are exhausted; let's face it, things usually go wrong when you are tired and need to focus better.

Have a little cry, go for a walk and have a cup of tea or something stronger. Whatever floats your boat. However, what you need to do next is to tell yourself that this is just a minor setback. Things don't go the way you want them to YET. The word yet is essential because you will sit down, reflect on what went wrong and make a plan to improve the process to make it work. After all, there is no other way to do that. The only way is forward.

Don't look for a way to make your processes perfect. They never will be. You will need to continuously work on them and review them regularly because there will always be a new way to improve them. But don't let that stop you from achieving your goals.

You could view a growth mindset as doing exercise. It's hard when you start, but it gets easier as you continue. You will probably hurt for a few weeks, but the pain will disappear. You can either keep doing what you do and achieve only a slight improvement, or you can challenge yourself to work a little harder, run a bit further, or lift a few pounds more and see better results. Someone with a growth mindset will seek the pain and will push themselves to go further and be better. Any personal trainer will tell you, "If you don't hurt, you are not doing it right." Or maybe it's just the sadist I have.

Just like anything, you can learn and develop a growth mindset. Focus on the improvements you achieve and stay resilient during the tough times. Don't get discouraged by the first failure. Instead, challenge yourself and move forward. Remember, things are only not going your way YET.

Surround yourself with the right people
It's an unwritten rule that every workplace has one. The one who brings everyone down, who is unpleasant to everyone equally for no reason. The one you can only talk to after you've had a nice cup of coffee and struggle to be polite to. You know who I'm talking about, don't you, because there is always one like that.

Having your own business is great because you don't have to talk or work with people like that. You don't have anyone to criticise how you work or when you complete your tasks. Negative attitudes are contagious and can bring you down. However, it can be a lonely journey and finding the motivation to do things can be challenging.

Surrounding yourself with the right people is invaluable. It will inspire you to push yourself further and motivate your self-development.

Having your own family on board with your goals is important because we spend a lot of time with them, but they may need help understanding what you are trying to achieve.

Find your tribe. People just like you are trying to improve themselves and achieve their goals. They may even be doing a similar thing to you, and you may be able to learn from them. Having a community of like-minded people is vital to your growth.

When you find out who you are, you will do very well, but when you surround yourself with other like-minded people, you can achieve truly amazing things.

Embrace your personal development
Embracing your personal development will help you accept new challenges and be open to reflection. You won't see failure as a threat but as room for improvement. Some people don't even try because they are worried about failing. If you can overcome that, take the risk and embrace life's changes, you are halfway there.

Going on the journey of self-development will help you find out how can growth mindset help your small business. It will open new doors and bring new opportunities for you. You will meet new like-minded people and make new friends who will support and make your journey easier.
